Motorcycle Safety for Riders

Motorcycle Safety for Riders

Many drivers believe that motorcyclists have it easy. They get to zoom in and out of lanes and can ride the line in some states. However, they actually don’t have it that easy. They have more dangers then most non-motorcyclists realize. Here are a few key things to know about motorcycle safety.

Use your head when operating a motorcycle and wear a helmet. Not all states require you to wear one when riding a motorcycle. According to Consumer Reports, 40% of riders who don’t wear a helmet will suffer fatal head injuries in crashes. For the best head protection for riders, look for the Department of Transportation (DOT) sticker and a full coverage helmet.

Being defensive when riding a motorcycle is another safety tip from Consumer Reports. It’s safe to assume when riding that other drivers cannot see you. A study by the University of South Florida’s Center for Urban Transportation Research found that in wrecks involving a motorcycle and a car, car drivers were at fault 60% of the time. For riders this means that you need to be aware of sudden lane changes of cars and keep a safe distance. Drive like no one can see you.

Motorcyclist have to ride cautiously, and be prepared. Just like any driver, the more you experience while driving the more you know. The more experience you have riding motorcycles the safer you will be.

Bail Bonds in Lynwood

New Year’s Eve is rapidly approaching, and thousands of people are planning on celebrating. There will be plenty of parties to choose from, and lots of drinking. So as long as the drinking is done responsibly, there will be no problem. Unfortunately, thousands of drivers will take to the roads on New Year’s Eve after having a few drinks. This is something that the police will not tolerate.

Due to this, there will be an increase in the amount of DUI checkpoints on the road on New Year’s Eve. The police want to reduce the amount of intoxicated drivers on the road, and thereby reduce the amount of accidents caused by drunk drivers.

If you are planning on driving on New Year’s Eve, be prepared to encounter a DUI checkpoint. If you want to avoid the line caused by the checkpoint, you are more than welcome to take a different route to avoid, just make sure you do so legally. While a person is allowed to avoid DUI checkpoints, they are not allowed to break traffic laws in order to do so.

DUI checkpoints can cause a bit of a traffic jam, but they serve a purpose. They help catch and remove drunk drivers from the road. This, in turn, keeps everyone safer. When a person decides to drive after drinking alcohol, they not endanger their own life, they endanger the lives of every single person they pass on the road.

If someone is planning on partying New Year’s Eve, they need to do so responsibly. They can do this by assigning a designated driver, or by using a taxi, Uber, or Lyft. By doing this, the person will be able to drink as much as they want, and will not need to worry about DUI checkpoints.

Partying too Hard

The official countdown to the New Year hasn’t started just quite yet, but your party planning for the New Year may have. Whether you plan on staying in, or going out, plan your New Year’s celebration wisely. This is the time of year where DUI checkpoints are around every corner, so don’t drive drunk, and remember your driver’s license.

On top of being responsible, try to be kind to your body as well. PreventionLane.org has several tips on how to be safe when consuming alcohol. The first tip is to know your limit, and stick to it. Consuming too much alcohol can land you or a loved one in the emergency room with alcohol poisoning. When consuming high amounts of alcohol it is wise to keep your body hydrated with water and eat a well-balanced meal beforehand.

Prevention Lane also recommends slowing down and sipping your drinks. Along with sipping your drinks, it is also suggested that you alternate between alcohol and water. While you’re alternating between water and your drink, also try to space out the drinks. The faster you consume your drinks, the faster you will become intoxicated.

Most importantly, have a designated driver and friend. The more you drink the lower your ambitions and cognitive abilities get. Having a friend to help guide you and make safe decisions, can help you have a successful New Year Party.

Prep Your Car for Winter

Prep Your Car for Winter

Winter is almost upon us, officially at least, and with that cold weather breathing down our necks, it is important to get things ready for the season. A person should always winterize the various aspects of their property, this includes their car. While it may not seem like it, your vehicle needs to be prepared for the winter months.

Winter is one of the harshest seasons of the year, nobody wants to get stranded on the side of the road in freezing temperatures. To help prevent that, a driver needs to take care of their vehicle. For starters, all of the vehicles fluids should be checked, and topped of or changed if necessary.

Different fluids to check include:

  • Engine oil
  • Transmission oil
  • Anti-freeze
  • Wiper fluid

All of these fluids help keep the engine running, with the exception of the wiper fluid which simply makes it easier for the driver to see through their windshield.

It is also important for a driver to check their vehicle’s tires. Ensure that the tires have enough air in them, and that the treads are still in good condition. The treads help provide traction and if they are too worn, the tires should be replaced. If you live in an area that receives a lot of snow fall, consider getting snow tires.

Lastly, ensure that your car’s battery is still good. Just like AA batteries, car batteries eventually go bad. The extremely cold weather of winter can make it harder for you vehicle to start, which puts more strain on the battery. If the battery is too old, it can go out and leave you stranded.

Be safe this winter and take care of your car. If you do that, your car will be more likely to take care of you and not leave you stranded anywhere.

Roads can become parking lots, and airports are filled to the brim with travelers looking to fly to their destination.

To help avoid any nightmare travel situations when it comes to flying, here are a few tips to help you out.

  • Choose the right dates. When it comes to flying, choosing the right dates can be very important. Choosing the same day as everyone else can lead to a lot of headaches dealing with crowds. Everybody wants to get the longest weekend possible while not missing too many days of work. Figure out what days those are and avoid them. If you can avoid those particular days, you can avoid a lot of the crowds.
  • Shop for the best deals. As with any purchase, a person should shop around when looking to book a flight. This can help you get the best deal available at the time. Also, do not be afraid to check flights from other local airports. You may be able to find a better deal at another airport that is close by.

Do You Want to Be Able to Reach Your Favorite Sites?

Do You Want to Be Able to Reach Your Favorite Sites?

Anyone who has been on the internet lately has probably heard about Net neutrality and how the Federal Communications Commission is looking to replace it. AS many might have picked up on, this is a very big deal. Net neutrality if very important for anyone who likes using the internet. With it gone, the internet will become a very different place.

The main concept, in basic terms, is this: Net neutrality makes it so that all websites and services are treated equally by internet service providers. This means that each site is allowed the same speed and connectivity as every other site on the web.

Without net neutrality, internet service providers such as Comcast, AT&T, Verizon, and many others will be able to do whatever they what with internet speeds. They will be able to slow data speeds for YouTube unless the company pays a premium rate. Providers will be able to block sites unless their customer pays to have access to those sites. Basically, the internet service providers will be able to make more money off of their customers and the website companies themselves.

This is why so many large corporations are against the removal of net neutrality. Companies like Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Netflix are all in favor of net neutrality, and for good reason. Without this protection, internet providers will be able to run rampant, and that will drastically affect the people who use sites like Netflix and Google.

Imagine only being able to use Bing instead of Google because Bing is paying Verizon to let their site be available to Verizon customers. Sounds insane, but is entirely possible if net neutrality is repealed. What makes this worse, is that this kind of situation is not a far stretch for many of these internet providers. They have tried to do similar things in the past, and were stopped because of net neutrality.

So, if you want to keep the internet as it is, free, then you want to keep net neutrality around. It is the only thing keeping internet service providers from completely screwing over their clients. You can do your part by contacting the FCC and your Representatives. Let them know that removing net neutrality is a terrible idea.

What to Do During an Evacuation

What to Do During an Evacuation

What to Do During an Evacuation

In the state of California, wildfires are fairly common. The weather and climate here makes it easy for wildfires to spread and grow out of control. Due to this fact, it is important that everyone knows what they need to do in case they ever need to evacuate due to a fire.

Before an evacuation is ever ordered, or a fire has even begun to spread, it is important to have things prepared. This way, if an evacuation is ordered, you will be ready to handle it. Cal Fire recommends creating an evacuation checklist. This will help ensure you grab everything important in the event of an evacuation.

Some of the things that should be included on this list are:

  • Necessary medications
  • Important papers and photos
  • Essential valuables
  • Transport for pets and/or livestock and some food for those animals
  • Spare clothes
  • Toiletries
  • Cell phone
  • An evacuation map with at least 2 routes on it

In the event that a fire breaks out, and an evacuation may be ordered for your area, use your evacuation list and begin grabbing everything on it. Pack up your car, and have it facing out of the driveway. Keep pets close by in case an evacuation is ordered.

Once an evacuation is ordered, follow the instructions of local law enforcement agencies.

No one wants to leave there home and risk never seeing it again due to a fire. However, leaving is the best thing to do. It helps keep you safe and out of the way so emergency officials can do their job.
